Sewing The Fuzzies

Velour, chenille, panne velvet, mohair, sueded wools and other "warm and fuzzy" textures are making big fashion news. Sew News readers are sure to love these specialty fabrics, but may be unsure about how best to sew them. Therefore, I propose an article on these fabrics that would give:

  1. Fabric types and designers who are using them.

  2. Tips for selecting suitable patterns for these fabrics.

  3. Cutting and layout suggestions (important because of fabric thickness or nap).

  4. Marking methods (for markings that don't disappear into the texture).

  5. Ideas for handling the fabric bulk during construction.

The pattern companies could supply plenty of current slides to accompany the story, and I can locate mail-order sources for the more unusual fabric varieties.
